The Enid Rotary Club and Rotary District 5750 donated a NSG Kelly Mannequin to the Northern Oklahoma College Nursing Program Monday in Enid Nov. 4.

NOC President Dr. Cheryl Evans thanked the Rotarians for their service to the Enid community and NOC.

“We appreciate your generosity of this gift that will make an impact on our program and the community,” said Dr. Evans. “Thank you for the investment in our students.”

“Nursing is a strong program at NOC,” she added. “So many of our students graduate and stay in Oklahoma. This is the medical hub for northwest Oklahoma. We appreciate your support of our nursing program.”

Cammie Bradley MS, RN, is the Nursing Division Chair. Bradley has been with NOC 10 years and spent 15 years as a nurse in Enid. The nursing program has 50 students in Enid and also students in Tonkawa and Stillwater as well.

“A Kelly Mannequin like this is so beneficial for our program,” Bradley said. “We can program them to simulate conditions that allows great learning environment for students.”

She said when students do their clinicals (the application of classroom skills learned in the classroom), they may never see certain conditions.

“With this Kelly mannequin, we can ensure that students experience everything they will see in the real world,” she said. “It allows us to match the theory with practicum together.”

“These tools allow us to keep up with changing times in the medical field,” she added.

The mannequin simulator can be programmed to give responses, make sounds, blood pressure can be raised or lowered, and other medical conditions can be expressed.

Rotarians toured the Nursing Skills Lab in the Zollars Library seeing the NSG Kelly Mannequin used by nursing students.

In introducing Evans, Rotary President Mike Ruby thanked Dr. Evans, faculty, and staff saying that, “NOC has never looked better.”
