Gipson and Ponce earn NOC player of the week honors
Soccer players of the week at Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa are Alexis Gipson, women, and Irvin Ponce, men.
Mavericks Head Women’s Coach Josh Smith announced Gipson’s selection for the week ending Sept. 6, saying, “This week Alexis had 8 shots, 7 on goal! She scored 1 goal on Neosho County and went on to score the game winner against Allen on a great header. Alexis' versatility on the field, her technical skill and her strength are great weapons that have helped us to a great start!”
Gipson is a sophomore defender from Crandall, Texas.
According to Mavericks Head Men’s Coach Michael DuRoy, “Irvin scored the game winner in overtime against Neosho County Community College and then had an assist in the win over Allen County Community College.”
Ponce is a sophomore forward from Enid.
The women, ranked 11th nationally, are 3-1 to date, following a 15-0 victory over Neosho and a 1-0 win over Allen.
The men’s record is 3-2 after defeating Neosho 2-1 Sept. 2 and winning over Allen 3-0.
The Mavericks’ next home game is against Dodge City Sept. 11 with women playing at 2 p.m. and men playing at 4 p.m.
