Ponce and Phiri earn NOC player of the week honors
Irvin Ponce of Enid earned his second nomination this season as Northern OklahomaCollege Tonkawa soccer men’s player of the week. Memory Phiri is the soccer women’s player of the week.Head Men’s Coach Michael DuRoy and Head Women’s Coach Josh Smith announced the selections for the week ending Oct. 11.
“Irvin scored a hat trick against Murray State in the Mavs’ 3-2 win,” DuRoy said. “He is leading the team in goals scored this year.”
Ponce is a sophomore forward and a graduate of Enid High School.
“Memory had 2 goals and 3 assists against Murray State,” Smith said. “Memory's speed and technical skill make her a constant threat in the wing. She now has 10 goals on the season.”
Phiri is a freshman forward from Lusaka, Zambia.
The women, ranked 10th nationally, are 11-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play, following a 11-0 victory over Murray State College and a 0-1 loss to Rose State College.
The men’s record is 5-9-1 overall and 1-2 in conference play after a 3-2 win over Murray and a 0-4 loss to Rose.
Both teams play Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College at home Oct. 22 with women playing at 2 p.m. and men playing at 4 p.m
