NOC names Players of the Week
Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa basketball players for the week ending Feb. 7 are Lady Mav Whitney Metker, nominated by Greg Krause, head women’s basketball coach, and Maverick Keeshawn Palmer, nominated by Donnie Jackson, head men’s basketball coach.
Metker earned her second nomination for the season as the NOC women’s basketball Player of the Week.
For the week’s three games, Metker averaged 11.7 points per game, 6 rebounds per game and shot 91% from the free throw line (10-11), according to Krause.
“Whitney is emerging as a key contributor for us. She is always one of our top offensive rebounders and is developing a nice perimeter game to go along with her aggressive play in the lane,” he said.
Metker is a 5’10” freshman from Lindsay and a graduate of Lindsay High School.
"Keeshawn had a good week for the Mavs,” Jackson said.“In helping us to three victories, Palmer averaged 9.6 points per game and 5 rebounds per game for the Mavs.He also had a career high 17 points against Murray State.
“Keeshawn has been improving every day and has really stepped up his performance the last three weeks.We are looking for him to continue to make strides in the last stretch of conference play heading into the conference postseason."
Palmer is a 6’7” freshman forward from Chicago, Ill. He graduated from Chicago Vocational Career Academy.
