Smith, Burgos-Garcia named NOC Tonkawa Players of the Week

Tori SmithAriel Burgos-GarciaSophomores Tori Smith of Shawnee and Ariel Burgos-Garcia of Broward, Fla. are Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa picks for softball and baseball Players of the Week, respectively.
Smith hit one home run, had 5 RBIs and threw out two runners trying to steal second base. Her batting average is .647. Her on base percentage is .677 and her slugging percentage is 1.000.
“Tori is one of the team captains as well as a member of the President’s Leadership Council. Tori is extremely hardworking and a great teammate. Tori will continue her softball and academic career at Cameron University,” said Mavs softball coach Kadie Berlin.
Smith plays center field and third base.
According to Mavericks assistant baseball coach Shawn Neale, Burgos-Garcia earned his first win with no losses. He had 11 strikeouts with one walk and no earned runs in the complete game.
“Ariel Burgos-Garcia hopes every outing could go as well as Saturday, as he struck out 11 batters to carry NOC Mavericks to an 11-1 victory over Brown Mackie at Tonkawa in six innings,” Neale said.
The softball team is 3-1 for the season and the baseball team is 5-1.
