NOC names Basketball Players of the Week
Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa basketball players for the week ending Feb. 21 are Lady Mav Madison Wilson, nominated by Greg Krause, head women’s basketball coach, and Maverick Costa Anderson, nominated by Donnie Jackson, head men’s basketball coach.
“For this week’s games, Madi averaged 8 points per game and 5 rebounds per game,” Krause said. “Madi played well both games this week. She was a force on the boards and scored well when we needed her. She can be so valuable to our team’s success when she plays with that kind of aggressiveness.”
Wilson is a 6’0” sophomore from Rosenberg, Texas, and a graduate of Lamar Consolidated High School.
“Costa had an excellent week for the Mavs in leading us to two roadvictories on the week, including #6 Connors State,” Jackson said. Anderson averaged 19.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.He also connected on 7 of 14 three-point shots and was 4 for 4 from the free throw line.
"Costa has been a leader for us all year and the team is looking for him to finish strong down the stretch heading into the playoffs,” Jackson added. “He is one of the top players in the Region and is an excellent ambassador for Northern Oklahoma College."
Anderson is a 6’2” sophomore guard from Atlanta, Ga., and a graduate of South Atlanta High School. This nomination is his third for the season.
The Lady Mavs are 10-19 for the season and 5-12 in conference play, and the Mavs are 23-6 for the season and 14-3 in conference play. The teams play NEO Feb. 25 in Foster-Piper Fieldhouse. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m. for women and 7:30 for men.
