Northern escaped an upset bid by Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami with a hard fought 3-2 win. The win clinches the Oklahoma Colligate Athletic Conference title for the 19th ranked Mavs, and ran their unbeaten streak to ten games. NEO controlled much of the play early on in the game, but it was the Mavericks who would score first. Brad Bennions crossed the ball in to Theo Ostas who headed the ball back across the goal to Andy Ochoa who headed the ball into the net. Late in the half Tyler Hall dribbled into the box and his shot was blocked by a Norseman defender out to the top of the box. Edgar Delgadillo blasted a one touch shot into the top of the net to put Northern up 2-0. NEO gained some momentum scoring a goal with just twenty-three seconds left in the half. The Norsemen would tie the game early in the second half with a nice volley on a free-kick. The game looked destined for overtime until Theo Ostas brought down a ball in the NEO box and laid it off to Anthony Walker, who ripped a shot past the goalkeeper for the game winner with just seven minutes left on the clock.
Mavs Lose to Rose State
The Mavericks had already wrapped up the conference championship, and were missing a few starters on a very windy day in Tonkawa. Rose State took the wind, which was blowing around thirty miles an hour, in the first half and dominated possession, but could not score. The Mavericks got the best of the play in the second half, and took the lead when Rickardo Oldham blasted in a shot after a long punt from Roberto Molina. The Mavs couldn't hold the lead though with Rose State scoring at the end of regulation, and winning the game in the first overtime. The Mavericks finish the regular season 15-2-1 (5-1 in OCAC).
Next game: TBD , Saturday, Nov. 1st 5:00 at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, OK.
