Child Development

“Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.”

– Rita Pierson.

In addition to the general education requirements, Child Development students focus on early care and education courses; Child Health, Safety, Nutrition; Child Development and Guidance and Infant/Toddler and Preschool Programming.  Elective options include children’s Creative Arts, Special Needs, Language and Literacy and Administration of Child Care Programs. Our Child Development courses can be used to apply for the CDA.  We also offer two certificates, Certificate of Mastery in Child Development and Certificate of Administration of Child Care Programs.  All coursework for the certificates is part of the Associates in Arts degree.

The Associate in Arts degree program in Child Development has been developed to prepare a person to work in the childcare field. Any valid CDA will substitute for 6 CD credits, CD 1023 and CD 1053.  The program provides for the understanding of the emotional, cognitive, physical, and social development of infants through pre-school age, preparing students in the design and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum, as well as communication, teaching, and guidance.

Classes are offered in a variety of formats, online, online live (Zoom), and on campus.
All Child Development courses are online.
