Upward Bound Program Offerings

Saturday Sessions

On the first Saturday of the month, Upward Bound participants attend academic sessions lead by program coordinators. Coordinators provide test preparation skills,financial literarcy education,admissions assistance, financial aid assistance, life skills and much more.

After School Tutoring Program

Upward Bound provides direct after-school tutoring services to students in small groups and individual sessions. After-School tutoring occurs on Monday through Thursday afternoons from 4:00-6:00pm.

Students with a grade below B  will be required to attend tutoring. Students may submit a progress report demonstrating improvement to be removed from required tutoring sessions. Tutors work closely with students, in supporting the academic development of students, ensuring students complete a rigorous curriculum, and in promoting a college going culture. All tutors are certified teachers.

 

ACT and SAT Testing Preparation

Participants are required to complete at least two hours of ACT or SAT preparation a month. This is accomplished by attending a monthly scheduled workshop. All four test subjects are covered. Writing and testing skills are also practiced.

Academic Advisement

Academic Advising is the once a month meeting time with the
advisor for the purpose of helping the student to stay on track in all areas to
achieve the academic goals they have set. The meetings run around 15 minutes in length and consist of but not be
limited to:

Reviewing the student’s current grades and
setting up a plan of improvement if necessary

Reviewing ACT SAT test scores

Planning ACT SAT test registration

Planning class schedules for the following
year

Monitoring the seniors’ scholarship
applications, financial aid process, and college application process

Summer Component

  • Non-Bridge (current high-school students) – attend Upward Bound college-prep classes. These will include Math, Science, Literature/Composition, foreign language and several elective enrichment courses in which the students get to provide various services to the community.
  • College Bridge (high – school graduates) – These students have the opportunity to enroll in two college classes at Northern Oklahoma College Enid.

Scholarship Opportunities

Qualifying students will be awarded a tuition waiver for up to 6 hours from Northern Oklahoma College-Enid. Textbooks and fees will be paid for by Upward Bound. FASFA must be completed and submitted for the summer semester.

Qualifying students will be awarded a tuition waiver for the fall semester immediately following high school graduation. Students will receive a tuition waiver for up to 12 hours from Northern Oklahoma College-Enid. Textbooks and fees are to be paid for by the student. FASFA must be completed and submitted for the fall semester.

*In order to receive these scholarships students must be in good standing with Northern Oklahoma College Enid and Upward Bound.
