CLEP

CLEP® (College Level Examination Program)

What is CLEP?

CLEP is a series of examinations that allow individuals to earn college credit for what they know regardless of where they learned it.  CLEP is the most widely accepted credit by-examination program in the United States.

What do I gain by taking a CLEP exam?

You gain credit without sitting in a classroom and going over material you have already mastered.  You save money by not paying for tuition, books, or fees.  You also save time, often placing yourself further ahead in your studies toward your degree.

Where do I take a CLEP exam?

You may contact the Counseling and Testing Center at NOC-Enid or you may take a CLEP exam at any other CLEP offering center.

When should I take a CLEP exam?

You may take the CLEP exam whenever you wish.

Does taking a CLEP exam affect my GPA?

No.  You get credit when you pass a CLEP exam, but no grade is recorded.  Only a P for passing.

How many times can I take the same CLEP exam?

There is no set number.  However, you have to wait exactly 6 months from the previous test date before you may retake a test.

When will I receive my CLEP score and how many credit hours can I earn?

Your score will print automatically upon completion of your exam.  You will need to check each individual exam and institution to determine what is a passing score and how many credit hours you will receive.

When will the credit be entered on my transcript?

The official credit report will be sent to the registration office once received from CLEP usually in approximately two weeks.  Credit will be entered on your transcript only after 12 hours have been completed at NOC.

How much time do I have to take the exam?

You will need to allow 2 hours for all the exams except for English which you will need to allow about 4 hours.

How much does a CLEP exam cost?

All exams are $100.00.  A non-refundable administration fee to NOC of $20.00 is required when the appointment is made.  CLEP prefers the $80.00 fee to them be paid by credit card but will also accept a check or money order made out to them at the time of testing.  An additional fee of $10.00 to NOC is required for the essay (e-write) portion of the College Composition Modular test.  Active Duty Military will only pay the $20.00 administrative fee to NOC.

What should I bring to the test?

Payment for the exam.  Two forms of ID.  One has to be a photo ID; driver’s license, school student ID, employment ID, passport, military ID.  The second ID can be another photo or something government issued like your social security card.
