Language Arts Division

Welcome to the Language Arts Division

Greetings, and welcome to the Language Arts Division at Northern Oklahoma College! I’m honored to serve as Division Chair and am excited about the opportunities ahead for our students, faculty, alumni, and friends. Language Arts is about much more than reading and writing. It’s about finding your voice, understanding the world around you, communicating with purpose, thinking critically, and learning how words and ideas can make a difference.

Find Your Voice, Find Your Path

Our division offers opportunities to for students to explore programs in:

  • English
  • Communication
  • Mass Communications
  • Elementary Education

We also provide many of the Humanities courses that are an important part of an NOC education.

Through courses in composition, literature, creative writing, communication, and the humanities, our students develop skills that reach far beyond the classroom. They learn to write clearly, speak confidently, think critically, appreciate different perspectives, and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.

Whether you’re preparing to transfer to a four-year university, pursuing a career in education or communications, developing your creative voice, or simply looking to become a stronger thinker and communicator, Language Arts provides a foundation for wherever your path leads!

Faculty Who Know Your Name

One of the aspects that makes Language Arts at NOC special is our faculty. We are a group of educators who bring knowledge, experience, creativity, and genuine care for students into the classroom.

Our faculty teach across NOC's campuses, through Zoom, at some area high schools, and online by offering courses in areas such as: English composition, literature, creative writing, oral and interpersonal communication, mass communications, and humanities. Many of our faculty also serve as mentors and advisors, helping students navigate their college experience and prepare for whatever comes next.

We believe that students are most successful when they know their instructors care about them—and we work hard to make sure our students know they are supported.

More Than a Classroom

Language Arts students have opportunities to put their learning into practice through writing, presentations, creative projects, research, communication activities, media experiences, and other hands-on learning opportunities.

Our humanities offerings also give students opportunities to explore literature, culture, history, philosophy, and the ideas that have shaped our world. These courses encourage curiosity and conversation while helping students develop the critical-thinking skills that are valuable in every major, every career, and every community.

A Place to Begin—and Grow

To our students: You are at the heart of everything we do. We want you to feel supported, challenged, and encouraged to discover what you can accomplish.

To our alumni: We are proud of the paths you have taken and would love to hear where life has taken you. Your stories are an important part of our division’s story.

To our friends and community: Thank you for supporting Northern Oklahoma College and the students we serve. Your encouragement and partnership make a difference.

Whether you are just beginning your college journey, preparing for your next step, or exploring something new, we invite you to explore the Language Arts Division, meet our faculty, and discover where your words, ideas, and curiosity can take you.

I’m glad you’re here, and I look forward to what we’ll accomplish together.

Warmly, Dr. Stacey Frazier
