“A Creative Journey,” featuring a retrospective body of work by Oklahoma photographer/artist Ken Crowder is currently on view in the Eleanor Hays Art Gallery on the Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa campus, according to gallery director Audrey Schmitz.
A reception with refreshments is planned for Sunday, Sept. 28 from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. with an artist talk at 3:30 pm.
Over 75 photos of diverse subjects include portraits, landscapes, panoramic scenes, rural and pastoral scenes, color abstractions and still life genre. Crowder includes narratives throughout the exhibit and attendees will enjoy two large panels that highlight his professional work as a commercial photographer as well as his 7-year career as Photojournalist in the US Navy.
Crowder shares, “For 44 years I have worked as a professional photographer. Starting as a US Navy photojournalist in 1981, I served in that capacity for seven years. I was an industrial photographer and photo lab technician for the next 5 years working at both Mertz, Inc. and Conoco Oil in Ponca City. Being self-employed for the last 32 years, I have photographed weddings, senior portraits, community events, family portraits, talent headshots, commercial advertising and fine art as well as a few video productions.”
“The images in A Creative Journey come from different aspects of my career. Even though the photographs are of many different subject matters, the goal and the feeling I had when actually pressing the shutter was always the same. I strove to make meaningful and artistic images no matter what or who was on the other side of the camera.”
A photograph is a moment.
A special moment, to be relived, again and again.
The photographer’s joy is to embrace the moment.
To bring it safely home, to share.
A Creative Journey remains in the gallery through Dec. 12. The gallery, located in the Kinzer Performing Arts Center, is open 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, by private appointment, and during events in the KPAC Auditorium. Admission is free.
