
Northern Oklahoma College students from the Sheep Production and Management class exhibited Dorset and Hampshire sheep at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Open Sheep Show, earning multiple honors including Reserve Champion Dorset Ewe and Outstanding Dorset Flock.
NOC Students shine at Houston Livestock Show Sheep Competition
The NOC Sheep Center attended the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Open Sheep Show this week, where students from the NOC Sheep Production and Management class exhibited 12 Dorset and Hampshire sheep.
The group had an outstanding showing, earning Reserve Champion Dorset Ewe and Reserve Champion Dorset Ram honors while also being recognized as the Outstanding Dorset Flock at the show.
Student Rosa Mendiola led the way by exhibiting her Dorset ewe, Lemon, raised by Fisher Club Lambs. Lemon was named Champion Dorset Ewe of the show.
Students attending the show included Alex Black, Blanchard, Oklahoma; Otto Cardwell, Lamont, Oklahoma; Hayden Groene, Keller, Texas; Brooke Haunschild, Winfield, Kansas; Corbin Lowe, Winfield, Kansas; Katie Reynolds, Calhoun, Georgia; Rylee Thomas, Douglas, Oklahoma; Shea Curtis, Luther, Oklahoma; Hazen Lester, and Rosa Mendiola, Kuna, Idaho.
The trip provided valuable hands-on experience for students in the Sheep Production and Management program while showcasing the strength of the NOC Sheep Center flock on a national stage.
