Silent auction, raffle to raise scholarship money at NOC’s quasquicentennial
In commemoration of Northern Oklahoma College’s quasquicentennial (125th) celebration, the Northern Oklahoma College Foundation is sponsoring a silent auction and raffle.
The silent auction and raffle will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Renfro Center on the Tonkawa campus from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Tickets to the event are $25. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served. The event is for patrons 21 and older.
More than 50 items will be available in the silent auction, including OSU Football Suite Tickets, a TS Fork Gift Certificate, a fire pit, farmer’s wife basket, and many others.
The raffle prize is a Louis Vuitton Diane designer bag valued at $2,700. Raffle tickets are $10 each or 12 for $100. The drawing will be held during intermission of the Quasquicentennial Concert on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
Funds raised at the event will benefit the First-Generation Scholarship and Program Support.
The permanently restricted scholarship endowment fund, created in January 2024, was established to provide financial assistance to selected students who are the first in their immediate family to attend and graduate from a two-year college or university and whose parents or legal guardians do not possess an associate or bachelor’s degree.
The scholarship was created and endowed for students who may not qualify for financial aid but could benefit from additional funding to help offset education-related expenses.
“As the daughter of a first-generation college student, I am so incredibly appreciative of the generosity of this donor,” NOC President Diana Morris said. “My dad’s community college experience completely changed the trajectory of his life, and therefore mine. This scholarship will improve the quality of life for many families for generations to come.”
According to Candy Oller, NOC director of development and planned giving, the anonymous donor who established the scholarship was a student who was not eligible for financial aid and paid her own way through college without assistance from family.
Oller added that the donor worked multiple jobs to make ends meet and, at times, wanted to give up but persevered. Now in a position to help students who may need financial assistance, the donor hopes the scholarship can take some weight off their shoulders. By knowing that someone cares enough to give back, the donor hopes to make their college experience a little easier.
Other quasquicentennial events include an exhibition at the Eleanor Hays Art Gallery inside the Kinzer Performing Arts Center, opening Sept. 22, and the Quasquicentennial Concert at the KPAC’s Dineo Heilmann Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 3.
