Student Email

Email addresses consist of the "(username)"@students.noc.edu.  There are several ways to access your email:

When logging into your NOC Student Email, please use your Northern Access username (example:JDoe1234) and password when signing into your account. 


Using a Web Browser:

  • Go to WebMail and log in with the same username and password that you use for your Portal.
  • Using a POP3 or IMAP client: (such as Outlook, Entourage or Thunderbird).  This page has all the directions you need to configure the POP3/IMAP mail client of your choice.  (Use your network username and password for the account information). 


To Forward your NOC Email to a Personal Email Account:

  • Go to the NOC homepage.
  • Under Student Links click on Student Email.
  • Logon to Student Email using your Username and Password.
  • Select the Options tab.
  • Click on Settings.
  • Go to Mail Forwarding and inside the box, type the email address that you would like your NOC email forwarded.
  • Click on Save Changes.


Setting Up Your Phone for Your NOC Email Account (Students):

Incoming Server Settings 

  • Server: msg.onenet.net
  • Email Address: "username"@students.noc.edu
  • User Name: same as email address
  • Password: same as used to log into your email account
  • Connection Security: SSL
  • Authentication Method: Normal Password
  • Incoming Server Port: 993 (should be default once you select SSL) 

Outgoing Server Settings

 
  • Server: msg.onenet.net
  • Email Address: "username"@students.noc.edu
  • User Name: same as email address (if the option is available, select “same as incoming server”)
  • Password: same as used to log into your email account
  • Connection Security: SSL
  • Authentication Method: Normal Password
  • Outgoing Server Port: 465

NOC's email quarantine system will send periodic notifications about the messages in your directory. This is to make sure you know about any messages that have been blocked. Possible viruses, phishing or other harmful emails would be the reason for them to be blocked. You can manage your quarantine directly from the links contained in the notification message.

  • Log In Takes you directly to your quarantine system welcome page
  • ReleaseAllows a message to be delivered to your mailbox and sends it to the system to be flagged as non-spam
  • SubjectTakes you directly to the message in the system
  • Whitelist Marks this sender as "always good" which will bypass the system spam filtering on this address forever (or until you change your whitelist settings)
  • ReportTells the system that this non-spam message is actually SPAM and sends it to be flagged for blocking
  • Confirm all Remaining Items This tells the system that for every message that you have not yet confirmed, the system was correct in marking them SPAM

To Remove the quarantine messages you must either mark them as SPAM/non-SPAM OR login to the system without confirming the status.

 

NOC Staff/Faculty Email Information:

Email Filtering Application

Your NOC IT Department recently implemented a new filtering application for our Email system.  Although this application is updated hourly of any new SPAM/Phishing emails to block, it does come with a feature that will allow you to add to its database of any emails that did get through their filter.

You do not need to add every email to its "Not Spam" category.  Only those that might have a non-standard address or you think might have the potential to be blocked due to prior issues should be added to the "Not Spam" option.

Please follow the steps below to install the feature that will allow you to submit SPAM/Phishing emails.  This feature is not currently available for Webmail.

This feature and the filtering application itself is for NOC PC's only.  If you have any questions please contact the IT Help Desk.

Downloading Spam and Virus Firewall Plug-In

  • Close Microsoft Outlook
  • Open web browser and type in http://d.barracudanetworks.com/
  • On the Download page, click on Version 2.4.4 (.MSI) under Barracuda Spam and Virus Firewall: Plug In for Microsoft Outlook
  • File will be downloaded to computer and a window will pop up with the file BsfOutlookAddIn-2.4.4, double click on the file.
  • Click Run (If you forgot to close Microsoft Outlook, it will ask you to do so now and you need to click Retry).
  • Click Next
  • Click I Accept the terms of the License Agreement
  • Click Next
  • Click Install
  • Click Finish
  • Open your Microsoft Outlook, now appearing on your toolbar are two envelope icons: one red, one green.  The red envelope has a cross on it and the green envelope has a checkmark on it.  The red envelope icon is used for marking an email as Spam, the green envelope is used to mark an email as Not Spam.
