Building a Better NOC

Select short-term projects that will be addressed in regard to Building a Better NOC listening sessions.

  • NOC Tonkawa Campus Beautification (Funding should be included in budget)
    • Pick up leaves, debris and acorns, and maintain on a regular basis
    • Select 5-10 flower beds and plant flowers, perennials, ornamental grass.
    • Develop a long-term maintenance plan.
  • NOC Tonkawa Wellness Facilities
    • Add a TV 55” in aerobic room to allow organized yoga, and other aerobic classes, utilizing instructional videos on the internet for students and community members. (Funding available)
    • Make sure quality basketballs, volleyballs available in wellness center. (Completed)
    • Extend hours of racquetball courts for students in evenings, weekends and over breaks. Develop schedule, when Campus Security are on duty. (No funding required)
    • Add sand volleyball court, near tennis courts.
    • Repair the lighting on the outdoors tennis courts. (Completed)
  • Food Service Enid and Tonkawa (select items included but list is much more extensive)
    • Meetings have already been held with Aladdin Food Service to improve offerings and service.
    • Increase offerings
    • Improve the snack bars, and extend service hours
    • Align the online menu, with what is actually available.
    • Provide a coffee shop services in the snack bars.
    • Review the student meal plan structure.
  • NOC Tonkawa Student Union
    • Replace the two pool tables
    • Recover the current pool tables and relocate to residence halls
    • Discuss whether furniture can be moved in the lobby and eating areas
    • Add a change machine in the entry area so students can get change for laundry
    • Determine uses for Walcher Auditorium

Select long-term projects that will be addressed in regard to Building a Better NOC listening sessions. Some projects have already identified funding sources, and others will be added to the more comprehensive BBNOC capital campaign plan that is being developed Summer 2022.

  • NOC Tonkawa Library Transformation to Pickens Learning Commons (Funding identified)
    • Student Learning Commons
      • Weed out older books/journals/resources
      • Update furniture for dispersed study areas
      • Update all the technology in the current library area, CEC has updated technology due to external funding.
      • Add massive mural on Eastern wall, and additional art on semi-permanent loan from donor.
      • Reduce the front desk area.
      • Review whether library can be open on weekend? With or without food service.
      • Update the mini-kitchen to provide student coffee and snack area.
    • Community access on campus for both NOC Enid and NOC Tonkawa.
      • NOC Enid Elevating Opportunities for the Enid Community (Secure external funding)
      • Elevating Opportunities for Enid Community
      • Replacing elevators to provide better access to many floors in historic buildings on the Enid Campus.
    • NOC Tonkawa Wellness Facilities
      • Capital improvements – Includes updating the Wellness Center & other wellness facilities (Secure external funding)
        • Wellness Center
          • Replace the walking track in Wellness Center (est. $150,000)
          • Replace considerable amount of exercise equipment and weights.
          • Review the open space to determine best use of space.
          • Update the technology in the facility and add back large-screen TVs near exercise equipment.
          • Review adding a bike storage and bike repair area for 12 college-owned bikes. (est. $23,000)
          • Add equipment storage area for inside and outside sports equipment
          • Replace the carpet in the classroom. (est. $10,000)
          • Update the restrooms/locker rooms.
          • Review the condition of the flooring in the aerobic room.
        • Researching ownership through Kay County Clerk’s Office of land near campus for two-mile walking trail.
          • Several 5K paths have been identified that include utilizing the two-mile walking trail.
        • Researched the cost to repair and paint the tennis courts. ($70,000 minimum)
          • Repair and paint set of two tennis courts.
            • Replace nets and purchase equipment.
          • Repair place two tennis courts with pickleball courts.
            • Purchase semi-portable nets and equipment.
          • Develop a schedule for intramurals for 2022-23, including some single day events.
        • NOC Enid Wellness Center Facilities (est. $2,000,000) (Secure external funding)
          • This has been on the NOC Master Plan for several years.
          • Make available to the community, especially as the East end of Enid (where college is located) is economically disadvantaged.
          • Include walking track, exercise equipment, weight equipment, aerobic room, restrooms/locker rooms, open area for flexible programming.
          • Develop initial Phase One plans. (Secure external funding)
        • Increase student workforce experience opportunities at NOC
          • Increase internship/work opportunities at the NOC Sheep Center
            • Sheep Center provides high level experience in the sheep production field. Ability to work with a purebred operation.
          • Identify workplace opportunities for the students in Process Technology and Wind Power.
            • Will mainly focus on hands-on experience in the P-Tech Lab that is being remodeled. (Grant funded)
          • Increase the internship opportunities for Business Students
            • The Experiment in Entrepreneurship in Northern Oklahoma is a proposal to provide students with true experiences in sales, marketing, inventory management, business management, book keeping, and customer service.
            • Experiment in Entrepreneurship in Northern Oklahoma
            • The project will provide true employment experience in a business enterprise that is run almost completely by students. This enterprise will become a model of innovative retail in the struggling town of Tonkawa, OK. The plan is for it to become a model for other colleges to follow.
          • Develop extensive plan to grow student engagement on campus
          • Develop strategies to overcome the financial constraints of adding new sports to NOC Tonkawa and Enid.
            • Look to identify sustaining funds for wrestling at NOC Tonkawa
              • This has recently gone through an extensive vetting process, including the development of a new application process with detailed spreadsheet to look at expenses and revenues.
            • Look to identify sustaining funds for women’s soccer at NOC Enid
              • This has recently gone through an extensive vetting process, including the development of a new application process with detailed spreadsheet to look at expenses and revenues.
