Pre-Engineering, Process Technology discussed at regents meeting

The Northern Oklahoma College Board of Regents heard a report from Engineering, Physical Science, and Process Technology Division Chair Dr. Frankie Wood-Black regarding the pre-engineering program and Process Technology Program at NOC.

Wood-Black said the Pre-Engineering program has recently expanded to NOC Enid with 12 students on the Enid campus. She said the program is designed for students to transfer easily to Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, or the University of Central Oklahoma.

Turning to the Process Technology Program, Wood-Black said NOC has 24 students enrolled in the program. Students who complete the program are prepared to work at area refineries.

Wood-Black also told regents that four NOC graduates are participating in the Bell Program, an internship program which allows engineering students to work full time while pursuing their engineering degrees. She said she hopes that more NOC students can take advantage of the program in the future.

Also, the board reinstated the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electronics Technology-Wind Energy Technician Option. The program was stopped in 2014.

In other board actions, the regents approved fiscal year 2021 Academic Service Fees and NOC’s the financial reports, presented by Vice President for Financial Affairs Anita Simpson.

The board approved NOC’s Social Media Policy after changes were recommended by the Attorney General’s Office. The regents originally approved the policy in December pending changes from the AG’s office.

It was reported by Vice President for Student Affairs Jason Johnson that NOC’s Livestock Judging Team is ranked #1 in the nation, the NOC Mavericks basketball and baseball teams and NOC Enid baseball are all ranked in the Top 20 nationally.

Vice President for Development and Community Relations Sheri Snyder reported that 20 NOC students attended the Oklahoma Higher Education Day at the Oklahoma State Capitol on Feb. 11 where students visit with legislators regarding higher education.

NOC President Dr. Cheryl Evans reported that Autry Technology Center in Enid will be awarded a State Regents Business Partnership Award on March 12. NOC currently partners with Autry Technology for a Respiratory Therapy program.

The next BOR meeting will be held in the Brown Conference Room in the NOC Stillwater Classroom Building at 1 p.m. on March 11.
