NOC Enid hosts Chautauqua Teacher’s Institute
Northern Oklahoma College Enid hosted the Chautauqua Teachers’ Institute June 12-17 in Enid.
The summer teaching institute is in its 15th year.
The institute is led by Dr. DeLisa Ging, NOC Enid Language Arts Instructor, Instructional Designer and Coordinator of Professional Development.
This summer’s workshop highlighted American aviation greats.
“The Chautauqua Teachers’ Institute allows teachers and students to learn about a given time period in an interactive fashion and provides them opportunities to see some of Oklahoma’s historical landmarks,” Ging stated.
During the six-day workshop, teachers and students’ earning college credit hear lectures from five nationally recognized scholars who are sponsored by the Enid Chautauqua Board LLC and other participating sponsors.
Each evening, class members saw a character portrayal of historical figures Eula “Pearl” Carter Scott, Rosie Cousins, Amelia Earhart, Jackie Cochran, and Chuck Yeager.
The class also toured Vance Air Force Base and the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid.
Northern Oklahoma College, the state’s first public two-year community college, is a multi-campus, land-grant institution that provides high quality, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities and services.
