NOC Enid plans Aug. 3 Planetarium Show

The Mackie Planetarium on the NOC Enid campus will present the next show on Thursday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m.

Fritz Osell will present the night sky over Enid and show prominent constellations in the evening sky.  He will also show known stars with planets and visitors will be surprised to see how many planetary systems have been discovered. Discovery of new planetary systems is largely a result of the combination of advanced telescopes like the James Webb space telescope with the rapid advancement of computer technology.  He will also which stars in the night sky are known to have planets in orbit around them.

It has been 134 years since the Land Run of 1889.  Osell will show how a new Land Run 134 years in the future may be a race to stake out claims and mine the resources in asteroids.

NOC’s full dome planetarium show will take our visitors into space by way of a space elevator.

There is no charge, but we do accept donations of non-perishable food items for Our Daily Bread and Loaves and Fishes.

A ribbon cutting for the newly renovated facility will be Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 6:30 p.m. with a ribbon cutting sponsored by the Enid Area Chamber of Commerce.  A planetarium show will follow at 7 p.m.
