03.13.2020 – Coronavirus HR Update

Due to the current COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, we must be vigilant and prepared to ensure College operations continue in a safe manner. The following topics should be reviewed to ensure there is a well-understood plan and approach for whatever spring may bring.

Employees Should Return To Work After Spring BreakUnless you are sick or quarantined, we are currently asking all employees to report to their campus jobs per usual until further notice.

If you are experiencing any flu-like symptoms, you should remain home, notify your supervisor, and not report to work. According to NOC Leave Policies 3.13.1 Sick Leave paragraph 4 – Absences may be charged to sick leave entitlement for an illness or injury which incapacitates an employee and prevents him or her from performing his or her duties or exposure to a contagious disease which, in the judgment of the College, would jeopardize the health of fellow employees and students.

Please contact your department head/supervisor, appropriate vice president and HR for options available to accommodate specific situations such as compromised immune systems.  Written approval for accommodations is required.

Self-Report Form – Spring BreakEmployees who are traveling over Spring Break are asked to self-report information in relation to their trip. An online form can be found at http://www.noc.edu/selfreport. This information will be submitted directly to HR and will remain confidential.

Please Observe Social Distancing In accordance with CDC guidance, the College is reviewing options to ensure social distancing occurs. Social distancing is a term applied to certain actions taken by Public Health officials to stop or slow down the spread of disease. Examples including limiting gatherings of large groups of people, changing business processes to allow for less face-to-face interaction and measures that minimize physical contact such as refraining from shaking hands.

The College asks that you reconsider upcoming events that would require group meetings and utilize ZOOM or other communication options. Also, please consider further leveraging of technology to handle team meetings and other business transactions that would normally be completed through face-to-face interaction.

Please encourage No-Contact Greetings. Simply announce you are not shaking hands at this time. Anyone watching the current news cycle will likely understand and be appreciative of your approach. In the same vein, please ensure that work space cleanings take place more frequently.
