Astronomy

The Astronomy Program at Northern Oklahoma College has students employed and doing science through NASA’s MAIANSE CONNECT Program.  Students are “Exploring the Sun and the night sky through the lens of Sky watchers, modern astronomy and ancient sky lor for members of American Indian tribes.”  In the past year, students have worked on cultural stories including the “seven lazy brothers,” the moon through the seasons, and “the rabbit in the moon.”  The purpose of the program is to stimulate science interest as well as preserve aspects of tribal culture by connecting objects of importance in their sky lore with authentic images obtained by the students.
