Upward Bound What Makes Us Unique
ACT Test Preparation
The national average ACT composite score is 20, and the Oklahoma average score is 20. Both averages are exceptionally high; however, several Upward Bound students at NOC-Enid have received composite scores of 30, 27, 25, 23, 21, and 20. Our average composite score is 23.
Our students have consistently raised their individual scores. Prior to entering the program, a student from Pioneer High School repeatedly scored a 14 on the reading portion of the ACT. After two individualized ACT preparation sessions she raised her reading score to a 20.
Cultural and Educational Events
Upward Bound understands the importance of becoming a well-rounded person and how students can reap the benefits of obtaining a higher education. Because of this, participants attend a variety of cultural and academic programs to learn skills applicable to everyday life. Participants have the opportunity to attend musicals, sporting events, museums, artistic presentations, and motivational speaking events during their time in the program.
College Tours
Students must decide where they want to go to college and spend at least the next 4-6 years of their lives. Upward Bound helps their participants with that decision by providing college tours of local and state universities that are historically favorites of former Upward Bound students. By the time students graduate from high school, they should have toured enough colleges/universities to make an educated decision.
